Project Manager

The Project Manager is responsible for major projects related to client’s public and private websites. This individual works with cross-functional teams to improve the software development processes and practices associated with continuously building, deploying and updating software and environments.

Project Manager manages the overall timeline for project activities. This individual proactively identifies risks and risk mitigation strategies, managing IRAAD. The successful candidate has experience with software development projects using Agile (Scrum, XP, etc.)

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Project Management Activities

  • Drive cross-functional team deliverables, setting and administering schedules and managing assigned projects from kick-off to launch and post-production
  • Understand the goals of the client and support development of a clear strategy for how operations will assist in achieving those goals and support tactical decision-making
  • Develop and continuously update project plans and timelines via established project management tools 
  • Develop and implement operational processes and decision-making strategies
  • Recommend proactive solutions to improve overall project execution; measure, troubleshoot and optimize workflow and communications processes
  • Monitor and communicate resource needs for assigned projects and teams
  • Continually monitor performance; maintain operational metrics (systems, staffing, etc.) and make informed recommendations based on these metrics
  • Assist in communicating with vendors/suppliers, contractors and contracting firms;
  • Act as a liaison between client-facing and technical teams
  • Track and report on the progress of assigned projects and manage tactical issues
  • Schedule stage gate reviews and project updates
  • Travel up to 25% time for team and customer meetings
  • Facilitate emergency releases from incident identification to incident closure

Release Management Activities

  • Coordinate timing of production release with scrum master and product owner
  • Track success of a project after a release
  • Facilitate project retrospectives to drive improvement
  • Maintain documentation of release management processes; work with scrum master to implement release process improvements
  • Create release management standards and educate vendors on methodology and strategy; collect feedback on standards and modify as needed
  • Ensure seamless integration with Agile processes

This position requires a broad range of skills and experience including, but not limited to:

  • Demonstrated track record of success in delivering strategic, complex, cross-functional and multi-site projects on-time and on-budget to generate significant business value

  • Detail oriented and results driven with a strong understanding of project risk management, risk response and contingency planning

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, capable of addressing both technical and non-technical audiences at a variety of organizational levels

  • Flexibility combined with the ability to multi-task; comfort working in a fast-paced and growing organization, while also driving toward clarity and solutions

  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems; ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward task completion

  • Strong negotiation skills; able to listen, communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders

  • Desire to work in a demanding and exciting start-up environment

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Visual Studio, Visio, Microsoft Project, and Outlook)

  • Minimum of seven years hands-on project management experience

  • Minimum of five years of experience managing software development projects using Agile (Scrum, XP, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to computer science or business administration

  • Amazon and Azure cloud experience preferred
  • Formal training in project management practices preferred
